A good liquid multi-vitamin? I'm 25 yr old male with irritable bowel. I have trouble absorbing a lot of nutrients and supplements and many things upset my tummy. I'm pretty sensitive to herbs/stimulants as well. Just looking for a high quality natural multi-vitamin, in liquid form. Anyone reccomend a good one? I'm considering: http://www.iherb.com/Peter-Gillham-s-Natural-Vitality-Liquid-Organic-Life-Vitamins-32-fl-oz-95-l/5119?at=0
Looking for a new liquid vitamin and mineral formula? I have been taking a prenatal vitamin for over two years and am looking for a change. I am interested in liquid because I think it will absorb better. I would also like it to be made from organic fruits and vegetables. Any sugestions?
How do I repair slight kidney damage caused by blood pressure medication; which I am no longer taking? I trusted my doctors, so I took diovan 160mg and hydrochlorothiazide 25mg; eight years for high blood pressure. These drugs have harmed my kidneys. I've lost 20% function, stopped the drugs, found a natural product (Hyperexol) that has normalized my high blood pressure. I'm told kidneys cannot be repaired. I don't believe it! I'm thinking fasting, faith, and prayer, is a good place to start. I remember when doctors said liver and hearts couldn't be repaired; they have been proven wrong. I am otherwise healthy. I eat organic and take liquid vitamins and liquid minerals each day, plus Hyperexol, and I walk and excercise daily.
Which VEGAN multivitamin is better do you think? Hello my boyfriend and I are vegan and we are going to start taking a multi vitamin and I have narrowed it down to two and we decided on liquid vitamin since neither of us are fond of taking pills so I have included links for both products with the ingredients list included because I don't know what makes one product better than another....... Also you could suggest what vitamin you use and why because that would help as well :) PRODUCT 1: http://www.vitacost.com/Greens-Today-Vegan-Formula-Powder#IngredientFacts PRODUCT 2: http://www.vitacost.com/Peter-Gillham-Natural-Vitality-Liquid-Organic-Life-Vitamins-32-fl-oz#IngredientFacts Just scroll down on each link and the supplement list will be shown. can i survive on vitamin water for a month? how much weight will i loose if i only drink vitamin water/ powerades/ juices/ (healthy organic liquid) in 2 weeks? i am trying to do a little detox and I don't want to take those colon cleanse pills. Thanks
Liquid multi-vitamin good enough? ok- i asked another question on here and haven't gotten an answer...but i did a little research the past hour and did indeed find liquid infant multi vitamin- so my question is this: can i take my picky 14 months old eater OFF formula for the most part- and let him have milk with the vitamin instead? i'd really like to stop formula because i don't like the chemicals and such in them- even the organic ones. but he still needs extra nutrients because his diet is limited at the moment. would this be ok? currently he takes 1/2 formula, 1/2 milk in bottles- and then just milk when it's in a cup. so now that i know he is comfortable and and can tolerate cows milk, i am looking at options for nutrients/vitamins. he was only 20 pounds @ his 1 year, so we need to pay attention to this. and yes, he still takes a bottles at time- but as i mentioned also uses a cup. we don't use sippy cups, we use a regular cup or a cup with a straw- because he knows how to drink from a straw. i am not asking you if my son should be on a bottle- that is up to me and out DR (who says if he wants a bottle until he is 18 months, but takes a cup, ok). the little guy was a preemie- he's a mini brute now, but has his moments. i just want to know about vitamins. ellen- perhaps i should have added details for those who were going to judge and not just answer the question. he is still drinking formula @ 14 months of age because our DR wanted this for now for a couple of reasons- being: a) he was a preemie and had a lot of problems with constipation- so she didn't want him having milk until he was at least one- and then starting him VERY slowly on it- due to the fact cows milk can/will constipate for some. He got a rash the first 2 times we started milk- so we had to stop and wait a week and start again. only the 3rd time did NOT get a rash- and we have slowly added according to what was suggested to prevent constipation. b) because once again, he was a preemie and his diet his limited because he is picky- so he NEEDED the extra nutrition that fortified formula has and cows milk doesn't. Now that he's comfortable on milk, I do 1/2 and 1/2- because until his diet expands, he needs nutrients. GLOW- thank you!! much appreciates and i like your take on it!! TERI- thanks also!! really helpful
The only cure for the Psoriasis? Hi All, OK this is how I cured my Psoriasis. But please read my suggested book titles aswell as i think it is essential that you are also self educated about your particular case of Psoriasis as everybody is different and often respond differently to treatments (as mentioned in my previous posts). Let me first describe what was my particular case of Psoriasis and symptoms: Chronic Scalp Psoriasis was my main symptom, also small patches on nose folds, ears and eyebrows (mainly during flareups). Also infrequent small patches on my lower legs and groin area. I also had a minor form of Gastritis/IBS which gave me constant stomach bloating. I also was increasingly becoming more intolerant to different foods (a sure sign of an intestinal imbalance and an unhappy Liver). I cured my Psoriasis by working both from the outside aswell as the inside as follows-: Outside (external treatment): Regular application of healing cream to Psoriasis spots (2 or 3 times a day). Also use only Natural shower gels and shampoos that do not contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate (most good health shops stock this). SLS is a harsh detergent that will only slow your healing process. Ingredients: 2 Parts pure Aloe Vera Gel, 1 part Jojoba Oil, enough to fill a small 50ml/50g jar. Then add the contents of a punctured capsule that contains either liquid Vitamin A as Retynil Acetate or Palmitate (ask your pharmacy), or simply fish liver oil as this also contains pure Vitamin A&D (the smelly option). Also add a few drops of pure tea tree oil to the preparation. Keep a jar handy for regular use. Once your patches disappear you can use the same cream but without the Vitamin A as a maintenance cream. Or the Body Shop Aloe Vera daily soothing moisture cream is a surprisingly good maintenance cream aswell. A Great face cream too! Scalp Psoriasis: You should apply this preparation once to your scalp and wash it out in the evening. It is a very light gel cream that is easy to apply even to the scalp and simply looks like you have used a wet look hair gel. Wash it out with an organic Apple Cider Vinegar before using an all natural shampoo that does not contain SLS (most health shops stock these types of shampoos. Avalon is a good choice). Apple Cider Vinegar is great for killing the yeast fungus on your scalp and restoring your natural acid mantle. It is also incredibly effective against dandruff and much better then any commercial product like Head & Shoulders. The first week you should use it every other day and then just once a week after that or when your scalp feels itchy or flaky. Directions: Apply about a cup full of Apple Cider Vinegar to your scalp (use an empty water bottle and make a hole in the cap) and gently massage it in to your scalp (you can add some clove oil and/or tea tree oil to cover up the smell on your hair). Then cover it up with a towel or plastic hair cap and let it sit on your scalp for between 1/2 to 1 hour. The longer the better depending on your time available before rinsing out. Inside (Internal Treatment): 1.Liver Cleansing Diet 2.Anti-Bacterial, Fungus & protozoa course 3.Juice Fast Weekend 4.Immune restoring diet course Using Liver Tonic and natural organic multi-vitamin tonic All with regular exercise and massage to help toxin elimination Week 1&2: Liver/Blood cleansing and elimination diet: Wake up: Two glasses of warm water (not too hot) with a squeeze of lime or lemon juice in the second glass. Then 2 capsules of Evening Primrose oil Breakfast: Fruit only- Apple compote (or stewed apple without sugar), Bananas, Kiwi fruit, Papaya, Pineapple, (no citrus fruits). => If you are prone to a sensitive stomach or some form of IBS then stew your fruit first by simply cooking on low heat in a saucepan with a cover for about 10mins with a little water (this will avoid the raw Cellulose and starches irritating your system) Teas: Lots of Camomile, Peppermint with honey teas during the day Lunch: Liver green salads (which include: Cress, Lambs lettuce, Parley, Raw Garlic) or cold cooked vegetables, especially cruciferous vegetables (cooked the night before) with a lemon and virgin olive oil dressing (must be home made). => IF you have a sensitive stomach avoid raw salads and opt for the cooked vegetables. Teas: Lots of Camomile, Peppermint teas with honey during the day Early evening Liver/Skin health drink- Home juiced: Carrot,Beet and Celery juice. You can add some fruit juice to taste if you like. Dinner: Fish or organic farm chicken (cooked in lemon, olive oil and garlic sauce) with fresh ginger or fresh herbs (choice of: Dill, oregano, basil, rosmary) and steamed cruciferous vegetables (choice of: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage) Snacks(between meals): Apple Compote (or sugar free Stewed Apples), fruits, Rice cakes dipped in olive oil. Also use a good liver tonic to speed the process up like: Swedish Bitters (a world renown natura

Calcium for older women and men? My grandparents both need to take more calcium, so what do you think is the best form? Liquid (if there is any, maybe a combination with vitamin D), Chews, capsules, etc. Also, my mom needs more calcium, and she is in her late 30s, What is the best form for her as well? Or should they eat more organic yogurt and soy or unhomogenized milk?
Organic or homemade formula recommendation? Okay, so my son is 7 mos old and is eating 3 solid meals a day plus snacks. He has also been solely breastfed since birth. I would like to continue but I cant. Its not just the biting and believe me I have tried everything anyone has told me to. The problem is that he has all 4 front teeth and just the sucking is rubbing me raw and to be honest hurts more than the biting. He will take any liquid BUT breastmilk from a bottle so pumping is not an option since he wants it from me. We are an all natural household whenever possible. I simply will not feed enfamil or similac. Gross, I wouldn't ingest something like that so I wont do it to my baby. I would prefer a supplement that comes from natural sources instead of an added man made vitamin. I would be open to a homemade recipe as long as I can find a completely nutritional formula. I have read about ones with raw liver ground up and thats nasty. Any advice is welcome and appreciated!!!
Was your doctor upset with you for losing weight during your pregnancy? I just had my first u/s this morning.... and I'm SHOCKED!!! I'm carrying twins!!!!!!! OML!! Anyway, since my first ob appointment until now I've lost about 7 lbs. My doctor is NOT happy with me. I don't crave anything but salads, fruit, beans, very little chicken. I become nauseated, if I eat any type of breads (that includes cereal), milk, cheese, eggs. I have been supplementing my diet with vitamins (both liquid and pill form) for quite some time now. I can tolerate those, but I can't tolerate certain foods. I've been to see the dietitian (since I also have diabetes), and she's ok with me continuing to eat like I have been, as long as I increase my intake of protein (which I have). I'm a part time personal trainer, and my doctor wants me to quit working before I hit 20 weeks. I work out every day, and I will continue to work out until these beautiful miracles are born. I know what I'm doing. But the doctor is CONVINCED I need to gain 40 lbs (which is NOT gonna happen). As long as I eat very healthy organic foods, exercise, and watch my weight what does it matter that I drop a few pounds? And before you think that I'm a skinny minny.. I'm not. I use to be over 300 lbs. Now I'm a very fit 170 (well 163 now), and I am very careful about what goes in my mouth. I just don't want to gain unnecessary weight. So my question is... Was your doctor upset with you losing weight during your pregnancy? I did forget to mention that this is not my first pregnancy. This is actually my 4th. I have a 6 year old, and I've had two m/c's. This pregnancy I'm being extremely careful with, but I REFUSE to gain 70 lbs like I did with my son. O Oh yeah, I've toned it down considerably since I found out I was pregnant. I'm just not going to gain any unnecessary weight, because I'm "technically" in the "over weight" category as it is. I'm 5'8, extra large bone frame, size 12 feet, and I feel really good at 170. So my doc is nuts if he thinks I'm going to gain 40+ pounds of unnecessary weight.
Whole Foods Multi-vitamin/Supplement for Children? I'm looking to supplement a mostly organic, natural, well-rounded diet for total health and immune system support for our kids (ages 2 and 5). Our views on health are not mainstream. Even a liquid or powder would be a consideration. I'm so confused with all the different vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, bioflaviniods, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
I almost passed out! What could it be from? I was sick this past weekend and I was finally feeling better last night (monday). I took all my vitamins and these organic herb pills (like cold fx but better) this morning, and instead of taking a regular advil liquid gel I took a advil cold and sinus. When I was in class today I felt light headed and felt like I was going to pass out so I put my head down on my desk and then my heart started pounding like I just finished sprinting. Right now I feel very tired and feel like I have no energy. And when I move quickly or fast I feel a bit light headed and feel as if I need to lie down. What could it be from? Should I go to my classes tomorrow or should I take one more day and just let my self rest more? I don't think I'm dehydrated because I've been drinking plenty of tea and water and I've been eating healthy. But it might be because my blood sugar levels were low since I haven't had much food with a lot of sugar in it. Or it could be that I got better and feeling better quick and I got back into my regular routine fairly fast, so maybe this was my body trying to tell my to slow down and rest a bit more. Thanks, I just want to know what other people think it could be.
Atheist's, why is it this universe (example:Earth) able to creat/produce a variety of nutrients and minerals,? , and vitamins, that are the prime ingredients for sustaining living organisms, from point A in evolution to what is currently point B in evolution? To be more specific; When we began evolution from the time before the single cell came into existence, to the time we are at now.. That life form that came about first, needed only a few conditions to survive. And as it evolved, in order to survive to make up for its evolutions, it needed an additional conditions added to its enviroment. Animals, (including humans ..) need much more nutrients/minerals, the works.. , than are earliest ancestors, including our earliest, the single single cell. It would make more sense to me, if, the odds of this universe was more likely to procude a few of our basic needs rather then now, where it produces all of our needs for living. In my opinion, which i believe to be true for this statement; The odds of the non-organic universe we live in, to produce all of our living needs, is substantially to high to be possible. My logic (which differs from person to person and could not be 100% accurate) tells me that it would make much more sense if our universe only produced perhaps the living conditions for certain organic life to exist, that did not require such an array of "things" to live. For example, one specie, moss, does not require more than 5% or less the things humans or crocadiles need in order to live. Or perhaps something like the worms that live on deep underwater vents, do not nearly meet the requirement need that our modern advanced land animals. To me it seems so impossible that our universe coincedentdly(<spelled wrong?.) stumbled upon the elements that exist sense the dawn of time,(<lasting from forever to forever) always having existed, that can produce all of our needs from basic living forms of organic life to advanced stages of evolution. It would make much more sense to me (in which case my "sense" could be right or wrong) if our universe consisted of elements that can only and will only produce things non organic in the form of solid, liquid, and gas. Now i'm not saying that the entire confines of our universe does not make sense to me. There are alot of things that i consider plausible for a universe. Like for instance, say this world did not contain any organic life. Then everything else that is still in existance, would make sense to me, and i would consider that plausible for a universe. Well the question is at the top of the page ^ First two answers did not use any abstract thinking. Im looking for abstract answers
Home-made rat/mouse food? What do you feed your rats/mice? Do you buy lab blocks or make your own rat food? What brand of blocks/what is in your home-made food? Here is my recipe: Amounts can be stretched and chopped down, depending on the number of rats. The recipe is for about two weeks for 6 rats. (Treats and fresh foods excluded) It turns into a kind of paste, you can bake half of it (or all, I suppose) into ratty-cookies and alternate to avoid “mushy poop” or whatever. Keep in mind all ingredients should be organic. 2 lbs of fruit and (steamed) veggies: Assorted berries Grapes Melon Apple Peas Greens – spinach, chard, turnip greens Broccoli Bok-choy Kale Sprouts Tomato Parsley Corn Squash Carrot Assorted beans ______________________ 1500 mg – liquid calcium with vitamin D 1700 mcg – chromium picolinate (the dose is based on their metabolism, not their weight) ¾ cup – Total cereal (or cereal of same nutritional value) ½ cup – Benevo Vegan dog/cat food 1 lb – (cooked) packaged soft tofu ½ cup – shelled raw sunflower seeds ½ cup – flax seeds ½ cup – raw oatmeal 4 teaspoons – pearled barley 4 teaspoons – millet 3 tablespoons – cooked brown rice 4 tablespoons – toasted wheat germ 2 ½ tablespoons – nutritional yeast flakes (5.6 g) 2 tablespoons – blackstrap (dark or full flavor) molasses ½ pound of cooked lean beef You just blend it all up and bake half (or all) into ratty-cookies and let your rats enjoy. "Rats and mice can and do very well on plain old kibble dog food" Is that supposed to be a joke? How long do your rats live? You do know that rats and mice have completely different nutritional requirments than dogs. I cant believe you think that is healthy, rats are omnivores, like us, how would you like eating nothing but dog food? That is just retarded.... Sorry everyone =P
Seeing my doctor again tomorrow because I don't feel any better? I am a 21 year old woman. I eat extremely healthy (an all organic well balanced diet) with no junk food ever, take vitamins and nutritional supplements, I don't take any prescription or OTC medications at all, I exercise, get about 8 hours of sleep a night, drink plenty of water and don't drink alcohol or do drugs. About a year and a half ago, I suddenly started feeling really run down all the time, started getting acne on my face, chest and back (which I never had before), extremely swollen lymph nodes in my neck (like the size of small eggs swollen), and white firm balls of smelly stuff that comes out of my tonsils. I went to my old GP, couldn't actually see him, then passed off by his rude nurse who gave me some antibiotics and basically told me to go away. So I just delt with it, up until about 3 months ago, when my boss started noticing me falling asleep at work (I have "episodes" that last about 10 minutes where I physically cannot stay awake no matter how hard I try, then I black out, then I come to and feel normal again). I decided rather than go back to my GP's surly nurse, I would see a naturopath instead since I believe in treating things naturally anyways. My new doctor is a very nice man, he comes highly recommended, and in my opinion takes a very sensible approach to natural medicine (he isn't off in the twilight zone and uses traditional medicine when applicable). In my initial visit, he spent an hour listening to what exactly my issues were, tested me for strep in his office (negative), reviewed all my supplements (and he made some suggestions on what to change and add) gave me a b-vitamin shot, and sent me for some blood tests (thyroid function, white blood cell count, mono, iron and calcium levels). Everything was pretty normal, my iron was a little on the lower end of the normal range. He put me on a light iron supplement every other day and told me to take a different liquid multivitamin to see if that helped, and told me to come back in 2 months to discuss how I feel, and he explained that this may be a very long haul to find out what's wrong, and that he will figure out the problem before giving me any type of treatment (I like that idea). It's been 3 months, I still feel like absolute crap, my acne is worsening, my tonsils still have smelly white crap coming out and my lymph nodes still look like eggs in my throat. My appointment is tomorrow afternoon. What do I say to him? I'm in the same condition I was 3 months ago, and actually feel slightly worse (I will admit the portion of my skin that the acne isn't on, like my belly and legs, looks significantly better after taking the liquid multi so it had some effect). Are there any suggestions you all may have to ask him about? Or ideas what may be wrong so I can ask him to test me for it? I like that my doctor isn't going to treat me before he knows what's actually wrong, but I feel like hell every single day, and the sooner we can figure this out, the sooner I can feel alive again. I forgot to add, when he did the mono test, he also tested for epstein-bar virus. I was negative for both. I do not care to use acne creams to cover it up, I want to figure out what is CAUSING the acne. I do not want internal birth control either. I am getting married in October, and we want to have kids in the next few years (yet another reason I'm trying to be healthy and feel better). I think it is unnatural to do that to your body, probably damages your reproductive organs in some way, and I refuse to do so. And I certainly don't want to see any more doctors who pass off my problems with a band-aid prescription without getting to the root cause. My doctor has also told me, if he feels it necessary, he will refer me to a specialist, but he will check in with that specialist to make sure I am getting proper attention, not just shoved pills to treat symptoms without a diagnosis.
What causes radiant, colourful, great looking skin? well this is the problem, 9/10 times i wake up with my skin looking fairly dull, no colour in it, tired, loose, my eyes looked tired, and sometimes the pores look open around my nose and between my eyebrows. Now 1/10 times, i'll wake up, with a nice rosey/red glow all over my face, skin toned and tight, eyes wide open, looking alive and really good, and that makes me feel good. however, i cannot work out what triggers this great looking skin and how to have it everyday. im fit and healthy, i try to cycle 30kms three times a week, juice my own vegetable juices of spinach, beetroot, celery, carrot, ginger apple and orange 2-3 times a week, try and have at least 8 hours of sleep a night or more, have a multi vitamin in the morning and 3 fish oil tablets, and a liquid table spoon of organic iron every 3 days or so and drink at least a 1.5 litre bottle of water each day, plus i cleanse my skin and moisturise each morning, and exfoliate after every shave, which is probably 3 times a week. no matter how hard i try, i cannot relate the cause of that great skin to anything i do. I don't like going in the sun because i know the dangers of it, however when i want to look good and healthy for something, unfortunately i do have to spend a good 15 minutes in it for the radiant glow. if i could find out how to naturally achieve it, i wouldnt be going in the sun. Does anyone know what may be causing that 1/10 time great healthy alive looking skin? and how to try and have it every day? any answers/suggestions for this long time searching answer would be greatly appreciated.

How come my skin still looks "dead"? My skin used to "glow" but it just looks gray and dead anymore. I eat a very healthy, all organic, mostly raw diet. I take a liquid multivitamin, iron (which my doctor has me taking), prebiotics, probiotics, allicin, and liquid silica (which is supposedly good for skin among other things). I exercise daily. And I get a little sun on my daily walks (I don't tan or anything, but my doctor says a little sun is essential for vitamin D production). I don't take any otc or prescription medications, do any drugs or drink (I do smoke hookah, maybe once a month so I see no reason that would have any effect on me). I'm careful to drink 8 glasses of water daily to keep hydrated. And I avoid putting any types of synthetic chemical on or in my body (no processed food, no lotions or hair stuff). I don't have acne or anything, just a occasional zit. It's just the overall look of my skin that's bothering me. What would be causing my skin to look so horrible? It looked better when I was eating fast food and a garbage diet. My doctor monitors my diet now, because I have Chron's disease, and diet seems to be the only thing that keeps it under control. I know I'm eating what I'm suppose to be and by all means, I should look healthier than 99% of the population. But I don't. Any suggestions why or what I can do to look better? I am getting married in less than 6 months. I really want to look nice and glowing for my wedding, not like a crack addict who just crawled out of the gutter. To the person who mentioned "Curcumin", how would that make my skin better? My Crohn's is under control right now, and I haven't had a flare up in 3 years because of my strict diet. I don't need help with the Crohn's, I need help with my skin looking like a living human beings. I look like a corpse.
Does this sound like too much food that I eat in one day? Breakfast - Bowl of 1/2 cup granola with dried apples and blue blueberries, one cup organic fortified soymilk and half a sliced banana MM Snack - Handful of nuts (cashews and almonds) Lunch - Sandwich with cucumber, red pepper hummus and lettuce on whole wheat bread. Organic wholesoy yogurt with all-fruit, no added sugar strawberry preserves mixed in. One homemade mini blueberry muffin made with huge blueberries and whole wheat flour (I made about 60 over the summer with blueberries I picked and froze them!) AN Snack - Small (size of my hand) piece of vegan pizza. Whole wheat dough with homemade tomato sauce, eggplant, red pepper and mushrooms. Dinner - Steamed kale with garlic, one small dinner roll (white flour, oops!) baked tofu with Braggs Liquid Aminos Does that sound like too much food? Of course I drink water and various types of teas throughout the day. I also take a multi vitamin.
wanna losse weight?? tips here :))? ok well you can try the raw food diet. read this ... :)) What is the Raw Food Diet? The raw food diet is a diet based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and seaweed. Heating food above 116 degrees F is believed to destroy enzymes in food that can assist in the digestion and absorption of food. Cooking is also thought to diminish the nutritional value and "life force" of food. Typically, at least 75% of the diet must be living or raw. What are the Benefits of the Raw Food Diet? Proponents of the raw food diet believe it has numerous health benefits, including: Increased energy Improved skin appearance Better digestion Weight loss Reduced risk of heart disease The raw food diet contains fewer trans fats and saturated fat than the typical Western diet. It is also low in sodium and high in potassium, magnesium, folate, fiber and health-promoting plant chemicals called phytochemicals. These properties are associated with a reduced risk of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. For example, a study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that consumption of a raw food diet lowered plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations. What are the Guidelines of the Raw Food Diet? 1. What can I eat? Unprocessed, preferably organic, whole foods such as: Fresh fruits and vegetables Nuts Seeds Beans Grains Legumes Dried fruit Seaweed Unprocessed organic or natural foods Freshly juiced fruit and vegetables Purified water Young coconut milk At least 75% of food consumed should not be heated over 116 degrees F. 2. What cooking techniques are used? Specific cooking techniques make foods more digestible and add variety to the diet, including: Sprouting seeds, grains, and beans Juicing fruit and vegetables Soaking nuts and dried fruit Blending Dehydrating food 3. What equipment can I use? A dehydrator, a piece of equipment that blows air through food at a temperature of less than 116 degrees F. A good-quality juice extractor for juicing fruit and vegetables A blender, food processor, or chopper to save time Large glass containers to soak and sprout seeds, grains, and beans Mason jars for storing sprouts and other food Side Effects Some people experience a detoxification reaction when they start the raw food diet, especially if their previous diet was rich in meat, sugar, and caffeine. Mild headaches, nausea, and cravings can occur but usually last for several days. Precautions The raw food diet may not be appropriate for certain people, such as: Children Pregnant or nursing women People with anemia People at risk for osteoporosis - A Washington University study found that people following a raw food diet had lower bone mass. Bone turnover rates, however, were similar to the group that ate a standard American diet. Considerable time, energy, and commitment is needed to be healthy on the raw food diet. Many of the foods are made from scratch. Some ingredients may be hard to find, such as Rejuvelac (the fermented liquid drained from sprouted grains), sprouted flour, date sugar, young coconut milk, carob powder and Celtic sea salt. People must be aware that certain nutritional deficiencies can occur on the raw food diet, including: Calcium Iron B12 – The Journal of Nutrition study found that a raw food diet increased levels of homocysteine due to vitamin B-12 deficiency. Protein Calories Critics of the raw food diet say while it’s true that some enzymes are inactivated when food is heated, it doesn’t matter because the body uses its own enzymes for digestion. In addition, cooking makes certain phytochemicals easier to absorb, such as beta-carotene in carrots. Another critique is that the human body has changed in response to eating cooked foods. Some of these changes are that are jaws and teeth have become smaller, our stomachs have shrunk, and our small intestines have grown longer, lengthening the digestive surface area. According to other alternative diet theories, such as macrobiotics, Ayurveda, and traditional Chinese medicine, a raw-only diet may not be appropriate for people living in colder climates or for people with certain constitutional types. i put this up because i wanted to help people that wanted to loose weight!! if you have any questions please e-mail me at kardasian_twin@yahoo.com
Do I take too many supplements? And is it dangerous to? I take magnesium pottasium, calcium phosphate? as recommended by a natropath, she also recommmended silica, sodium sulphate and something else I cannot recall. Plus she also gave me organic magnesium for night time and a homeopathic rememdy for anxiety and depressium, plus a kali phos spray! I also take selenium and have just started taking vitamin B becuase I am vegetarian well pescatarian as I also take fish oils... Then i take another remedy for water retention (homeopathic), occassionally take maca powder and liquid chlorophyl, L-lysine when I am run down to prevent cold sores, occassionally take ginko bilbobo. Seems like a crazy mix? I have just been trying to get better without taking the prozac the doctor ordered and I am slowly, but wonder if this is a toxic mix and what'll happen when I stop taking them?
How to reduce scar/discoloration from a recent rash on my face? About 3 weeks ago I had a rash on my face.Bumpy and clear pus was draining away also scabbed. It was deep but not too deep. I had a similar one on my nose maybe 3 months ago. This time I went to my general Doctor. He prescribed anti-biotics and Bactroban skin oitment. Im not sure what it was I can assume some type of staph infection. My Dr didnt really say as I was a walk in and he tends to be a little on the Rushy side. Any hows the infection/problem is gone but has left a slight scar on my face. I have been applying Vitamin E/Safflower oil and Aubrey Organis Aloe Vera which is liquid that has to be put in a fridge suppose to be natural organics. I have seen a slight improvement but the hasnt really gone away. Any tips on how to get rid of this.
Can you name some reasons to go vegetarian? ONE HUNDRED & ONE REASONS TO GO VEGETARIAN People Land Air Water Efficiency Animals Health PEOPLE Every year in the UK we feed our livestock enough food to feed 250,000,000 people while in the world 30,000,000 people die of starvation 20 vegetarians can live off the land required by one meat eater Every 3 seconds a child dies of starvation somewhere in the world If Americans reduced their meat consumption by 10% it would free 12,000,000 tons of grain - enough to feed 60,000,000 people (the population of Great Britain) If all Americans became vegetarian, it would free enough grain to feed 600,000,000 people (the population of India) Intensification in animal farming has displaced 1,000,000's of people from their traditional lands - eg. indigenous people in south & central america, native americans in north america & crofters in Great Britain - this is continuing today People displaced from their lands into cities succumb to dietary deficiency, diseases, parasites & opportunistic diseases In third world countries 1 in 10 babies die before their first birthday The UK imports £46,000,000 worth of grain from third world countries to feed our livestock Due to overgrazing 850,000,000 people live on land threatened by desertification & over 230,000,000 already live on land so severely desertified that they are unable to sustain their existence & face imminent starvation 1,000,000,000 people in the west gorging on meat & dairy leave 1,000,000,000 to waste away & 3,500,000,000 teeter on the brink LAND If they continue to clear American forests to raise cattle at the present rate, in 50 years there will be none left 1 acre yields 165 lbs of beef or 20,000 lbs of potatoes 8/10 of cultivated land in the UK is used to grow food for animals (14,732,000 hectares) It takes 16lbs of high protein soya to produce 1 lb of beef Since 1945 in the UK we have lost 95% of flower meadows, 50% of ancient woodlands, 40% of heathlands, 50% of wet lands & 224,000 km of hedgerows all due to animal farming Pressure on land due to meat farming leads to soil erosion 6billion tons/year in the USA If everyone went vegetarian upto 90% of land used for animal farming could be taken out of production & used to replant woodlands, leisure activities etc. 25% of Central america's forests have been destroyed for cattle grazing since 1960 Between 1966-1983 38% of the Amazon rain forest was destroyed for cattle grazing 90% of cattle ranches established on cleared forest land go bankrupt in less than 8 years as the land becomes barren due to nutrient loss & overgrazing Overgrazing by cattle is destroying the land & increasing desertification, nearly 430 million acres in the USA alone has suffered a 25-50% reduction in yield since first grazed An inch of topsoil takes 200-1000 years to develop - yet in the USA they have lost around 1/3 of their prime topsoil in 200 years (around 7 inches) due to animal farming Land will be lost due to rises in sea level due to global warming due to animal farming AIR The destruction of the rainforest by cattle farmers is destroying the lungs of the planet & reducing the worlds capacity to replenish our oxygen supply The 1,300,000,000 cattle in the world emit 60,000,000 tons of methane per year (methane is a greenhouse gas & leads to global warming) Burning of forests, grasslands & agricultural waste associated with animal farming releases 50-100,000,000 tons of methane per year Combining these figures, 25% of methane emissions are due to animal farming (not including the billions of sheep, pigs & poultry so the real figure is much higher) Fertilizer used to grow crops to feed to animals releases nitrous oxide - thought to account for 6% of the greenhouse effect Fertilizer, weedkiller & pesticides sprayed on crops enter the atmosphere creating a noxious carcinogenic cocktail CFCs are released into the air from refrigeration units used to store decomposing flesh (meat), milk & butter - CFCs are destroy the ozone layer Ammonia from animal urine also pollutes the atmosphere CO2 is released by burning oil & petrol in lorries, ships, abattoirs, dairies, factories etc. associated with meat & dairy production Emissions from large chemical plants which produce fertilizer, weedkiller & other agricultural chemicals are also poisoning our air WATER 25 gallons of water to produce 1lb of wheat & 2500 gallons to produce 1lb of meat UK farm animals produce 200,000,000 tonnes of slurry (liquid excrement) every year, the majority of which ends up in our rivers Bloody waste water from abattoirs ends up in our rivers In the USA every second humans produce 12,000 lbs of effluent while farmed animals produce 250,000 lbs Nitrates & pesticides used on crops grown to feed livestock end up in our rivers Meat & dairy farming uses 70 litres of water per day per animal in the UK or 159,250,000,000 litres per year in total The water used to produce 10 lbs of steak is equivalent to the average consumption of water for an entire household for an entire year Depletion of groundwater reserves to grow crops for animals & to supply abattoirs will lead to greater water shortages Aquafers (stores of underground water) in the San Joaquin valley in the USA are being drained at the rate of 500,000,000,000 gallons/year to produce meat 18% of all agricultural land in the world is irrigated & as global warming increases (partly due to animal farming) it will cost $200,000,000 to keep these systems going The water used to produce a 1000 lb beef steer is enough to float a Destroyer battleship The liquid waste from the various parts of the meat & dairy industry flow into the rivers & from there into the seas polluting them & encouraging huge algal blooms to grow EFFICIENCY To produce 1calorie of energy from meat takes 60 calories of petrol, whereas growing grains & legumes to directly feed people produces 20 calories for each calorie of fuel used ( thats 1200 times more efficient) Meat & dairy farming uses billions of gallons of oil to run tractors, fuel ships & lorries (to move animal feed & animals), pump billions of gallons of water to irrigate fields & run slaughterhouses, power refrigeration units to prevent the corpses from decomposing & to power sewage plants to clean up some of the pollution produced Cattle convert only 6% of their energy intake (mainly grains & soya) into flesh, the remaining 94% is wasted as heat, movement (which is why they keep many animals in very close confinement), hair, bones, faeces etc 1lb of beef takes 1 gallon of petrol to produce A family of four eating beef for a year uses enough petrol to run a car for 6 months (obviously depending on how far you drive!) If the full ecological cost of meat was passed onto the consumer - the price would be quadrupled (at least) The EC spends œ100,000,000's to subsidise animal production resulting in lakes of unwanted milk & mountains of unwanted meat & butter. This money could be better spent encouraging organic fruit, vegetable & grain production In the USA in 1979 145,000,000 tons of crops were fed to cattle resulting in only 21million tons of animal bodies - the cost of the wasted crops was $20,000,000,000 Between 1950 & 1985 grain production in Europe & the USA increased massively but 2/3 was fed to animals 70% of all grain is fed to animals Eating vast quantities of animal flesh, eggs, milk & butter is a luxury that most of the planet can not afford ANIMALS Fishing with drift (and other modern) nets weakens & destroys ecosystems by indiscriminately killing billions of sea creatures & disrupting the sea bed Fishermen's nets kill 10 times as many other animals as the fish they are hoping to catch Fish caught in nets die an agonising slow death of suffocation Each year 15,000,000,000 land animals are slaughtered for food & an unknown but much larger number of sea creatures (including 1000's of dolphins caught accidentally) Chickens are crammed into battery cages with upto 3 other birds, they are unable to even spread their wings & many can not even stand up Unwanted male chicks (because they can't lay eggs) are gassed or pulped while their sisters go to the battery sheds Chicks are debeaked without anaesthetic to prevent them injuring each other in the unnaturally confined conditions they are kept in - this is equivalent to having your fingernails pulled out without anaesthetic Modern farming methods using growth hormones & artificial lighting mean that many chickens out grow their bones, resulting in fractured & broken legs Sows are kept tethered in stalls 1.3 x 1 metre on concrete or slatted floors - they can not even turn around Poultry raised for meat are kept in windowless broiler sheds, with around 20-30,000 in each shed, they live in an area of 10-20 cm square - fighting due to overcrowding is common & like battery hens they commonly suffer from supperating bed sores Broilersheds are artificially lit 23 hours a day to produce rapid growth Animals travel between farms & to slaughter in overcrowded transporters with no food or water - resulting in stress, injuries & deaths - legal requirements are widely ignored 95% of poultry suffer injuries before being killed & 30% suffer broken bones Problems with stunning practices mean that many animals have their throats slit while still conscious (around 6% of cattle or 200,000 per year) & are then dipped in tanks of scalding water (to loosen feathers, bristles etc.) again while fully conscious 4000 animals die spurting their blood out every minute in a British slaughterhouse Calf leather comes from animals killed at just 2 weeks old Cows were fed on the ground up remains of other cows & sheep - the result is thought to be BSE (mad cow disease) in the USA cattle are fed partly on recycled plastic pellets Cows only give milk for 10 months after they have a calf - so they are routinely artificially inseminated (ie. mechanically raped) to keep them pregnant & milking - their calves are taken away (usually at 12 hours old) for meat or export to veal crates Cows would naturally live upto 20 years but are slaughtered after 5-7 years when their milk production begins to fall In the UK animals are killed by first being stunned with electricity or a captive bolt gun (ie. a bolt is fired into their heads) before having their throats slit & being plunged into boiling water - all this happens on a production line with the animals being hung upside down from a moving conveyor belt - this is factory farming "Animals are those unfortunate slaves & victims of the most brutal part of mankind" - John Stewart Mill (philosopher) Veal calves are confined in stalls in the dark, unable to move & are fed on pigs blood , chocolate & dried milk (we are drinking the rich fresh milk of their mothers) Cows naturally produce 5 litres of milk per day for their calves - under the intensified systems of modern farming they produce 25-40 litres per day - resulting in swollen & inflamed udders - at this rate they are soon worn out Large areas of land are under monoculture to grow crops to feed to animals - these areas are wildlife deserts supporting fewer & fewer species. HEALTH Vegetarians have a 20% lower rate of mortality from all causes (ie. they live longer & don't get sick as often) Meat is full of traces of antibiotics, hormones, toxins produced by stress & pesticide residues that become concentrated from all the crops they have eaten Fish contain heavy metals & other pollutants -many of which originated on farms The world health organisation recommends a diet low in saturated fat, sugar, salt & with plenty of fibre - exactly what you get on a vegan/vegetarian diet Farmed animals contain upto 50% saturated fat in their bodies Vegetarians have 24% reduced risk of getting heart disease & Vegans a 57% reduction (heart disease is the biggest killer in the UK accounting for 50% of deaths) Obesity is rare in vegetarians, obesity is related to many diseases Vegans & vegetarians have lower blood pressure & cholesterol levels - high levels are associated with heart disease, strokes & kidney failure Vegetarians have a 50% reduced risk of dying of diabetes Vegetarians have a 40% reduced level of cancer than the general population thought to be because they have a higher intake of vitamins A,C & E Vegetarians have a reduced risk of developing gall & kidney stones 80% of food poisoning is due to infected meat (faeces, bacteria etc.) after all meat is decomposing flesh - most of the rest is due to salmonella in eggs Osteoporosis due to calcium loss from bones is mainly due to the sulphur content in meat & casein protein in milk that cause calcium to be lost in the urine - the countries with the highest meat & dairy consumption are those with the highest levels of brittle bones 50% of people do not have the enzyme to digest milk properly & milk allergy is related to asthma & eczema Meat eaters have double the rate of Alzheimers disease as Vegans & Vegetarians - some people also think that Parkinsons disease is also linked to meat eating Egg yolk is a dense concentration of saturated fat & the white is high in albumin protein associated with leaching calcium into your urine. Butter is 80% saturated fat, cream is 40% saturated fat & cheese is 25-40% saturated fat Meat eaters are two and a half times more likely to get bowel cancer than Vegetarians The cling film used to wrap meat in supermarkets & butchers contains chemicals linked to falling sperm counts in men Chinese people (living mainly on a vegetarian diet) consume 20% more calories than Americans but Americans are 20% fatter Of 2,100,000 deaths in the USA in 1987, 1,500,000 were related to diet (ie. meat & dairy) AND I COULD GO ON ! If you've read this far, I hope that you are beginning to see that the Meat & Dairy industry is a major contributor to misery on this planet. It is destroying the health of people in rich countries, starving those in poor countries, it is torturing & killing billions of animals every year and in the meantime it is one of the major factors in the destruction of the environment - so what does the meat & dairy industry have to say in it's defence? Well their only real point is usually "Meat is tasty" - fair enough a lot of people enjoy the taste of meat - but there are plenty of delicious alternatives (just consider the huge range of vegetarian dishes in Indian cooking - one of the oldest & most sophisticated cuisines in the world) and if you really crave meat & dairy, nowadays there are plenty of healthy non animal alternatives - just look in the supermarket & health food shop. So I hope you will agree it's pretty pathetic to consider all the evidence & then say "well I know you're right about the environment & health & the animals - but I just love my meat" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: ARC is @nti-copyright throughout - Copy and distribute any part as you wish.
