vitamins & supplements? Hi does anyone think we have become obsessed with taking vitamins? I use to pop loads of supplements, but I think now they just were a waste of money, and more over maybe even created health issues. Is it that supplements in their concentrated form are too much, and that our metabolism is not designed to ingest such potent quantities ?

What vitamins/supplements do you take and why? I take quite a few vitamins, mostly recommended by my doctor -- calcium, vitamin C & E capsule, evening primrose supplement, and a multiple. Plus a probiotic. But I have heard fairly frequently that all vitamins really do is give you very expensive urine! ;-) Yet I can definitely tell a difference in how I feel when I stop taking the supplements -- especially the calcium and evening primrose. Your experiences and thoughts?

What is the best time of day to take vitamins/supplements? Hi, I've been having some health problems and am now taking vitamins (E and folic acid), as well as supplements (cranberry and yeast), and well as a low daily dose of antibiotics (preventative measure to keep from gettins sick). What's the best time of day to take these pills? In the morning, before I go to work, or in the evening before sleeping?
Can I deduct the cost of vitamins, nutrition supplements, and alternative therapies from my Income Tax if...? ...I am a professional speaker on the topic? I advocate the use of these lifestyles, therapies, and products for health, wellness, and slowing the aging process. I definitely practice what I preach. I use/do everything I recommend in my speeches. I am in my mid-50s and look (and act) much younger. I know that I am a walking promotion for my speaking business and that my appearance and behavior validates my expertise/opinions in the audience's eyes. Therefore, I have to believe that my personal use of vitamins, supplements, and other alternative therapies should fall under the category of a business expense and be tax deductible. I am told by colleagues that this is "probably" true, but no one can give me any hard data to back up that claim. If you agree (or disagree), can you give me the references I would need and could use if the tax deductions are ever challenged by the IRS. Thank you for you help.
How long does it take for vitamins/supplements to take effect? I am anemic (due to being a vegetarian) and have been suffering from severe fatigue for the past month or so. I started to take a multi-vitamin and extra calcium and iron supplements in hopes that they would improve my health and energy level. I was just wondering how long it takes for supplements to start working through your system so I know if vitamin deficiencies are something that I should keep looking into. Thanks.
How long does it take vitamins/supplements to leave your system? I've been having some weird symptoms lately, and am going to the Doc tomorrow. I'm having a blood test, but the thing is, I've been taking things like vitamin b-12, iron, and magnessium supplements (via my StepMoms advice.) What I'm getting at is, I want my blood to show up like how it would every other day, how I am normally. The last time I took these supplements was yesterday. If my appointment is tomorrow morning, will the blood test be affected by these supplements?
Are vitamins & supplements really good for you? I heard that vitamins, minerals & dietary supplements don't really work. That they are worthless and you are wasting your money & time with them. Does anyone know for sure or recommend how I can find out the truth? Thanks a bunch!!

Vitamins & supplements, when to take, how to take, what to take in combination? I take a LOT of supplements. As soon as I see a story on a particular vitamin, mineral or other supplement, I go out and I buy some and then use it for a few days/weeks. But I feel as if I'm wasting my money because I don't really see any difference in how I feel. I'd like to know if there are particular times of day that it's best to take certain supplements. What vitamins I should take with food and what type of foods in particular. What vitamins/supplements I should not take together. What vitamins/minerals/herbal supplements are recommended for a woman in her 40's with a mild thyroid problem. Finally, which supplements will have the most impact on energy and brain function. I eat relatively healthy - no fast food, little junk food, lots of fruit, veggies and fish. I exercise as much as I can, but often have little energy or motivation. I'm 20 lbs overweight, but feel it may be due to missing nutrients because at times, I have incredible bursts of energy. Any suggestions??
What vitamins/supplements should I take to battle depression? I see many suggestions but don't know exactly what to get. I don't want to have to worry about taking a million tablets a day, preferably just a few and stuff I could take together, all at once, when I wake up in the morning. Does anyone have suggestions to cover every vitamin/supplement my body/brain needs/could use to fight depression? Thank you.

Should I talk to my doctor about vitamins & supplements? I'm 18 years old and currently taking a 1000mg Fish Oil supplement twice a day. I want to start taking a pro-biotic and maybe a couple of vitamins like D3 and B-Complex. I ordered the fish oil from Vitacost and just started taking them without consulting anyone first. If I wish to continue to add supplements to my daily regimen, should I be asking my doctor first? Also I am not experiencing any negative side affects from the fish oil.
Taking vitamins and supplements to Mexico - do I need original packaging to identify what they are? Usually when I travel I take only the vitamins and supplements I will need for the time I am away. This means I take them out of their bottles and put them in a travel pill case. I have never traveled internationally before so I've never been through customs and I am not sure what to expect. Can anyone shed some light on the best thing for me to do? The TSA website and the site for the airline I am using do not mention anything about this.
Can anyone recommend a book/web site that informs on use of vitamins/supplements for optimum health? I have read that because of poor quality of food and air these days we are better off taking vitamin and food supplements. How do you chose what to take, how do you know how they react with each other or cancel each other out, etc. It seems like a minefield - and I expect taking too many supplements is worse than taking none. There are so many good answers here for me to follow up, thank you all for your advice. I am fairly healthy, but get run-down every so often and feel my body is lacking something, I'm catching colds etc much more frequently than ever before.
Are there any supplements/vitamins that help in getting a leaner face? I'm a guy. I've been working out for a while, and my face has gotten a lot less chubby than it used to be but I'm still not satisfied with it. I wonder if there's any kind of vitamins or supplements that can help with that? Also, I'm 18, and I'm curious to know if my face will continue to get leaner as I age or if it's stopped, and I have no more "baby fat" to lose. Thanks. And I do plenty of running. In fact, my weight is pretty low. I'm a very slim guy, it's just my face that isn't...
