Pediasure....says "use under supervision of a physician?"?
I purchased some Pediasure for my son because he's 15 months- and still poor eater. He's getting better- but I would like to make sure he's getting his vitamins and minerals. I read the package VERY carefully- and found it to be suitable for my son. Well when you OPEN the package, on the individual bottles, it says "Use under supervision of a physician". You couldn't see this on the outer wrapper that wrapped all the bottles together. So now I have 8 bottles of Pediasure (which aren't cheap)- and am not sure if I should let my son have them. We are in the process of looking for a new ped- while I like ours, she is just really unhelpful and acts like she is too busy for us- and that's unacceptable to me. I have never asked for much of her time at all- by anyone's standards. Does anyone else use Pediasure- or does anyone know why the recommend using under supervision of phys.? i love my hero- thanks for you answer!! my son is not "underweight"- he was 20 pounds exactly at his 1 year, he is 22 pounds right now and he is 15months old. He was born 7 weeks early. He IS a poor eater- he doesn't like solids much, but he is getting much better. This is the reason I bought the Pediasure in the first place- because they make it seem so wonderful on the package for poor eaters. I think it sucks that I spend so much money ($10) on something that AFTER you open the package says use with physician. I even showed my mom and asked her to look at the outside to see if I missed something- and she too noticed that this phrase was NOT on the outer packaging. It sucks.

- They recommend only using it if your doctor has "perscribed" it. It is often used for babies/toddlers who have failure to thrive or were premature and they still have troubles gaining weight or eating. Pediasure is calorie packed and is meant to help kids gain larger amounts of weight in short time frames. It is also packed with vitamins and nurtrients, which is good, but you CAN overdose on vitamins. If you child is eating relativley healthy and isn't underweight, pediasure could make him very sick and possibly overweight. Please don't give this to your son! My son has troubles gaining weight and I asked my doctor about Pediasure. My son is not under weight and he is not losing weight, he just does not gain weight very fast. Our doctor did NOT recommend Pediasure to us. It could do more harm than good. ***EDIT: Yeah my son is a poor eater too. He doesn't really like his milk and he's picky with solids. He is also VERY active though, so i think he only has problems gaining weight because he is so active. At 9months he was 19.8lbs and at 1 year he was 21.9 and at 15 months he was 22.2lbs. He does gain a bit of weight but I guess he is falling on the growth chart since he's always been a big boy and now he's not. He was 9lbs at birth and has always been above the 50th percentile for weight, but now he is in the 17th. My doctor says that as long as he is not losing weight then its ok if he gains it slowly. But once they start losing weight then it's an issue.
- its fine.
- you need to talk to your dr about that my sons pediatrician said it will make him gain too much wait my son is also a poor eater he likes to eat everything but he only like to eat when he wants to eat and not very much of it if any of it
