My dog will not take her vitamins! What is good tasting liquid vitamin your dog takes without a "fuss"
I was able to get a vitamin pill in her by wrapping cheese around it, but she got wise to it. Anyone know of a liquid vitamin for dogs. or Can she take like Flintstones or liquid vitamins for children? She has stopped eating her dry Nutro, I have tried Merricks, Duck and Potato something....uh...Solid Gold buffalo and salmon...you name it.....she will just not eat any dry dog food anymore. I have now resorted to cooking chicken and rice with peas and baking sweet potatoes...she is driving us crazy..the people that had her before said she would not eat dry and I believe it... I was wanting her to get some vitamins in her somehow.. Thank you all for these answers..they are enlightening..for sure!!

- do not give your dog, vitamins made for children, those can make your dog really sick With any pill that I give my dog I just open their mouth and drop it in close the mouth and gently rub the throat till they swallow. when they swallowed I give them a treat. If you make a big deal about when you do give a vitamin to your dog, your dog will do the same. you just need to suprise her. get a hot dog and stuff it in the hotdog and let her eat it that way. Just when you get ready to give it to her make sure she is not in the same room when you get them out
- Don't give human vitamins to dogs or cats, one you can give it great for the coat is Omega Fish Oils, but if you feed a high quality good diet they don't need extra to get it in the food. So before I go an further what are you feeding? EDIT What a stinker, lol. Okay this you can try cook you meal you do for her, buy a high quality dry kibble with the first ingredient of chicken and no a by product then then second rice, put maybe 1/4 of it and of course a 3/4 of the cooked meal, do this for 2 wks, then 1/2 and /12 for another two wks, and 3/4 and a 1/4 and so on. I'm not sure how long you have tried but a dog can go 3-4days without eating anything, they won't let themselves starve, we have to play tough love with them, peas are high in sugar and the sweet potatoes is to high in starcth for them and really isn't good for dogs, and give no treats of table food for the next month, they do get the idea and will eat haven't know one dog or cat to starve themselves. I wish you best of luck hope this helps, would be so much nicer if we could just sit down and explain it to them. If you must cook a meal it's best to use boiled chicken, white cooked rice and chicken broth. And if in that case buy a vitimin from the vets, no over the counter they will give the best for your doggie:) Greekman is correct as well.
- i dont really know but try putting the vitamins in his water then go outside and play with him. He should get very tierd then he will have a drink or try getting a hard vitamin and put it in his food or even try putting it in something your dog will eat really fast like dog ice cream.
- Personally I'd stay away from commercial vitamins.
- i'd stick with the dog vitamin pills but i'd change the variety of disguise method the vet clinics have these awesome treats called pill pockets that come in diffrent flavors and taste like treats or if she still catches on if you put a pill on the back of the dogs tongue and close their mouth and rub their throat its natural for a dog to swallow it, if you dont feel comfortable sticking your hands in your pups mouth the vet clinic might also have something called a pill popper that you can use.
- Do not give your dog and human vitamins. If you take the pill (whether rapped in cheese or not open the mouth wide enough and drop it to the back of the throat, hold the mouth shut they will swallow, and NO they will not choke on it. If they should they will bring it back up. It seems cruel but I have two pitbulls that got smart and would eat the cheese and spit the pill back out! Hope my advice works out for you.
- Put the vitamin in peanut butter. It will stick to the vitamin and be harder for her to get around it. My pup is not eating dry food. I mixed shredded cheese in and that works pretty well, you want the cheese small enough she can not pick it out. I then tried mixing 1/4 can of wet food and she loves that. I also switched brands, she seems to like the new brand better. Other suggestions to put on dry food: plan yogurt boiled rice
- The people that had her before you made the same mistake as you are...they bow down to a dog that when given food will refuse because she is spoiled to death. Put down the food and give her 15 minutes then pick it up and try it again the next day, 15 minutes ONLY. Keep doing every day, the same dry dog food, she will eat, I promise..You would eat it too if you were starving and had nothing else to eat. If you give her a decent food, she does not need extra vitamins!!
